Contrary to popular belief, Tantra was never about mastering complex sexual positions, such as those described in the Kama Sutra, nor was it even designed to help us improve our relationships. Its original purpose was to help practitioners connect with an inner essence of God. Yet when we use Tantric principles to experience energy, we also deepen our connection with our beloved, not just sexually but emotionally and spiritually as well. When Richard and I share this intentional awareness, our passion is renewed and love is reborn.
Tantric sex is physical intimacy that fulfills the larger purpose of spiritual union. Tantric sex can be any sexual engagement that links you intimately with your beloved and joins you in a blended dance of sexual, emotional, and spiritual wholeness. You can enjoy tantric sex as a formal, ceremonial ritual or as a brief, casual interlude in the midst of more robust sexual activity.
In Tantra, everything is sacred—both the physical and the spiritual—so be sure not to judge your partner for his or her preferred way of manifesting sexual energy. Experiment, explore, and discover what evokes a shared experience of infinite love for the two of you. There is no right or wrong way to experience bliss. You can spend hours together, if and when you have the time and inclination, or you can rekindle your passion daily, as Richard and I do, with a ten-minute intimate practice that we call Peaceful Passion.
